Governor Of Yobe Imposes 24-Hour Curfew On Damaturu Over Insecurity.

DESPITE the continuous military clampdown on fleeing Boko Haram insurgents in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam on Tuesday imposed a 24-hour curfew with immediate effect until the security situation improves in the metropolis.

The imposition of curfew, according to government sources in Damaturu, was to complement the Military's and other security agencies' gallantry in "effectively repelling" the insurgents in Monday's multiple attacks and bombings on public buildings and military posts.
The 24-hour curfew was contained in a statement of Special Adviser on Public Affairs and Information, Abdullahi Bego and made available to newsmen in Damaturu.
It reads in part: "This curfew approved by His Excellency, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam takes immediate effect. All residents are strongly advised to remain in their respective houses communities, until the curfew is relaxed for commuting in the metropolis.
"The decision is taken in consultation with heads of law enforcement agencies in the state as part of measures to enable the security agents, who did a great job on Monday in repelling insurgent attacks on the town, to conclude their ongoing assignment."
The statement also added: "His Excellency Governor Gaidam has expressed his appreciation to the residents of the state capital, and to people all across the state, for their support and cooperation with security agents," while urging the people to continue to support the security efforts and to pray to Almighty Allah (SWT) for the return of peace and security.
